Whilst I sit here with two dead arms and a glass of wine after finishing my final lot of vaccinations, I thought what better time to get round to starting my blog.
I anticipate this may just be a compilation of my drunken ramblings; but I hope I will also be able to give a bit of insight into my life and my upcoming adventure – and also let my mum know I’m still alive!
For those who don’t know me, I am a 5 foot, 22 year old, IT Security Analyst from a small village in Cheshire, who has decided to take a break from my 9-5 and travel the world solo. I will be leaving in August but decided to set this up now to introduce myself and share my concerns and excitements.
I’m not very good at describing myself, so below you will find the responses from close family/friends/colleagues, that I asked to describe me in one sentence.
- “Independent and a little nuts, you’ll do whatever the fuck you want, but to your closest friends and family, you’re mad loyal and protective and would do anything for them” – My Best Friend
- “A wonderful granddaughter who knows how to twist me around her little finger and make me enjoy it. Loving, beautiful and always supportive, love her to bits” – My Grandad
- “Beautiful, kind and intelligent, I couldn’t be more proud even though you’re also completely bonkers and impossible to parent” – My Mum
- “An unpredictable and uncontrollable maverick that everyone can’t help but love.” – My Sister
- “Patsy Stone reincarnated” – My Boss
- “Depends what day we catch you on” – My Colleague
- “The weirdest motherfucker I’ve ever known. Like someone has tried to compact all the weirdness of a 6’2 guy into a gorgeous 5’0 girl with great tits” – The Max to my Paddy
- “Laura is like a rollercoaster. Lots of fun, but really scary and possibly dangerous” – First person I’d call if I had to hide a body
I think you can probably anticipate from those descriptions that this will be a ‘no-bullshit’ blog and you shouldn’t expect pictures and stories of me sat around a camp fire singing Kumbaya, in a pair of hareem pants.
My plan is to not make too much of a plan, I’ve ‘winged’ the majority of my life so far and it has turned out alright. That being said, I am extremely accident prone, so the likelihood of this blog becoming a global A&E TripAdvisor is also very likely.
Anyway, I hope this first post has given a bit of insight into me and my plans (or lack of) – but after a chaotic year; finishing my degree, breaking up with my first love and getting a new pair of boobs, this adventure couldn’t come at a better time and I hope you enjoy my updates on what I expect will be a crazy year.
